The woman got the fire going and returned inside the house, appearing seconds later carrying a loaf of bread and a small jug of water. By this time she had removed her weapons and was now wearing her cloak, boots and, what Conrad could now see as a black leather top, with two straps over her shoulders. The sash that held her sword on her shoulder was deep green, which added to the sense of the woodland.
“Here,” she whispered, “Eat this. Your battle was hard and you deserve it. I’m only sorry that I haven’t anything else to give you”
